Not much to say that hasn’t already been said. Police seem positive nobody else related to the University is involved in this scandal. The only new news is that Jimmy ran a Bull Mastiff Pitbull site, which seems legit from the standpoint of having the dogs registered and updated with their shots.
It’s depressing that this happened, and that we had to endure Jimmy Johns much longer than we apparently should have. Finebaum and others are self righteously blaming Saban for not kicking off JJ sooner (hindsight is 20/20, even for a guy with one good eye). Personally, while I can certainly say Saban shouldn’t have just kept Jimmy in somewhat decent graces (one suspension under Nick), I guess he couldn’t kick JJ off the team if he was passing every drug test and showing up for practice every day on time when you consider the fact that he didn’t run him off earlier. If you allow them to stick around, you just can’t toss them off after the season if they are actually following the rules. It would be inconsistent.
One thing Saban grossly underestimated was the attitude of the program that he inherited. It’s burned him in the past, and he unfortunately didn’t want to toss everybody off or else we would’ve had a 4 win season last year. But, it has come back to bite him in the butt.
The good news is that while this will hurt us, these kids weren’t signed by Saban (sans Elder, who was already committed to Shula and held by Saban), so the recruiting brunt shouldn’t be too bad. We are in the SEC after all.
