It finally happened this season… Alabama finally beat a decent team. I know Vanderbilt isn’t a road warrior, but who in the SEC can honestly brag about an above .500 road record? The best you can hope for is about 35-40% on average.
What’s depressing is that we almost gave this game away. Could one toss this up to coaching? certainly. But give Gottfried credit where it is due, he pulled out one of those miracle wins that have been absent this year. Mark usually gets a handful of these earlier in the season, which somehow leads to an NCAA or NIT birth. That’s really the reason why he’s been here as long as he has. Yes, Mark Gottfried depends on pulling these upset victories out of his butt almost.
I refer to it as the “Gottfried Surprise”. You never know when it’ll happen, but be sure that he’ll get at least 2 or 3 of these a year to make the fans happy. Of course, the fans normally start kissing up to him an upset like this one, but this season has already been so bad, he’s got a lot of ground to make up in order to get back in the good graces of the fans.
All we can do now is hope for some revenge on the Baby Gators, then a miracle against Mississippi State. The team seems to actually have some confidence, and Gottfried is capable of using it to his advantage.
