Following Up The Todd

If you haven’t heard it by now, Orson Swindle from Everyday Should Be Saturday has started up a rivalry based fund raiser for a few different charities.

The rules are simple:

1) Make a donation online to the American Red Cross, CARE, or the International Rescue Committee.

2) Email the donation confirmation to kevin@fanblogs.com and state your team affiliation by 8pm EDT on Wednesday, May 14th.

3) Results will be displayed at Every Day Should Be Saturday and Fanblogs throughout the week, with the final results shown by Thursday, May 15th.

4) The winning school will have its colors displayed at EDSBS and logo/mascot shown on every page at Fanblogs.

Speaking of “The Todd” from Roll Bama Roll, he too wants you to donate if you can. Please do it, because well…. I just want reasons to post this picture:

The Todd will totally high five a donation

I have already donated $30 (big college grad money from the new college grad!), which means I have donated about 23% of the $130 given by Alabama fans as of the evening of May 12th. We’re tied with Auburn, and Michigan is ahead with a big time $1,000 (did one older guy donate this all at once or something?). If you can afford it, give it a try as it is a worthy cause to help those affected by natural disasters in Oklahoma, Georgia, and Burma.

Want another reason to donate? Well, I know my donation to the International Rescue Committee is tax deductible come April 15, 2009 (Itemized Deductions! WHAT WHAT!!!…….. depending on your A.G.I.), so I’ll assume that the Red Cross and CARE are as well. Donate if you can!

BTW, if Todd doesn’t like “The Todd” references, I’ll avoid them in the future.

Random Alabama/Celebrity Tie In

Does anybody remember “Clarissa Explains It All” or “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”? I must admit that I never watched Sabrina, but I did catch a few episodes of Clarissa as a small kid, both staring Melissa Joan Hart.

Anyways, somebody showed this to me and I thought it was somewhat interesting. if you’re from the Wiregrass area, you’ll appreciate this:

Receiver Arrested for Public Drankin’

Sorry, those Fulmer Cup terms start to become a part of your vocab if you’re an SEC fan (it’s 1 point BTW).

Walk-On A.J. Walker was arrested for public intoxication (AL.com) the other night, and is currently being held for $300 bail. The 19 year old was arrested by UA police, and not much else is really being said.

I for one hate having players arrested, but I don’t think everyone needs to get up in arms about a public intoxication. Is it a dumb move on his part? Yes, but it’s not like he mugged two guys or anything (we’ve already experienced that). Besides, I’m sure he’ll benefit as a person from this somehow…

It worked out extremely well for this guy…… whoever he was is

Welcome to JSU Mr. Perrilloux

As you may have heard, Ryan Perrilloux has been kicked out of LSU. But, what you might not know is that Jacksonville State, located in Jacksonville, Alabama, has asked for permission to speak with the Perrilloux family.

So Ryan, although you might be the pariah of college football right now, it does appear that somebody is willing to talk to you about actually playing football. Since you might end up a Gamecock (let that sink in for a minute), let’s take a look at what JSU has to offer via their website and football program.

Their head coach is Jack Crowe, who, prior to coaching at JSU, was the head coach at the University of Arkansas. I’m sure by reading this, many different Hog fans out there had chills go down their spine as the remember his 9-15 record. But, Crowe has found success in the lower level of college football, and I’m sure your presence would have a huge impact as to their performances, since JSU lost a handful of close games the last few seasons.

As for the Gamecocks themselves, they’ve had a fair amount of success on the field, although they’ve gone 6-5 these past three seasons. They recently joined the OVC, which should interest you since you’ll get to visit plenty of new spots. But, don’t expect any SEC vengance since the conference record is 3-102-4 (victories against Ole Miss and Mississippi State).

If that isn’t enough for you, let’s take a look around campus through google images:

I Want To Hear From You!

As you may be aware, we are in the part of the season where very little is accomplished in the world of college football. We’ve just finished spring practice, not too many recruits announce this time of year, and we’ve still got a long summer to go before fall camps start.

So, in the interest of trying to entertain everyone out there, I have decided to see if my readers would like anything new and creative for the summer so we’ll have something to discuss/ keep us busy.

Hopefully you see the poll at the bottom of this post (I’m using PollDaddy.com), so this shouldn’t be too difficult.

The choices are:

Fan Posts- Yes, if you write it, I will post it. Needless to say, I won’t accept spammers or anything of that nature. But I will accept honest fan opinion pieces. All you’d need to do it e-mail me (shown above). I love reader comments and feedback, so don’t feel nervous at all.

Book Reviews- I usually choose to read either faith based books or sports books over the summer, but I’d do mostly sporting books so I could continue this whole sports blogging…. thing without anybody worrying if I’ve gone off the reservation or not. I’d probably poll readers on what books I should read, and I’d probably do one per week/2 weeks depending on my schedule and the book.

Guest Bloggers- I’d find anybody who would be willing to post a weekly/monthly/whatever blog post in order to shake things up a bit. This would be slightly different from the fan pieces since I’d probably try to seek some people who are either better known or already bloggers themselves.

Blog Switch- Similar to the Guest Bloggers, except I would trade a post with another site. This would obviously have to be a blogger, unlike the GB. It would be like a parallel universe almost. WoOoOoO!!!!

Don’t Do Anything- If you don’t care for any of these options, or you like me the way I am, this is your option.

Also, I should add that if you have any other suggestions, either send me an e-mail or leave a comment. Also, if you can’t see or use the poll I’ve inserted, you can also e-mail or leave a comment. POLLING ENDS ON SUNDAY!!!!

My Dream

So yeah…. I doubt I’ll be skipping a night of sleep again. The project has been turned in, after a day of finding ways to keep myself from sitting still for two minutes as to not pass out. I ended up in bed around 8 pm, and after a night of some of the oddest dreams I have ever had, I finally woke up around 9:30 this morning.

When I say strange dreams, I mean STRANGE. The only one worth sharing involves Ron Zook, Boston, and a night of awesomeness. I’m sure that line alone just grabbed your attention.

So in my dream, I had decided to take my girlfriend out for a nice meal at a restaurant I have never seen before in my life (A. Yes, I do have a girlfriend and B. I have no idea if my dream restaurant had a name). This place wasn’t in Tuscaloosa, so how or why we got there was a bit of a mystery. All I remember is being taken to a table that you had to share with your fellow customers. Think Japanese steakhouse, but with a bigger set-up.

There was live music, so I was enjoying myself in this dream world I had concocted. All of the sudden, I hear some voices starting to mumble from the back about “hey look! It’s that guy who failed at Florida!” I, being the college football fan that I am, turned around to see this man in a suit and mock turtleneck:

Have You Ever Seen The Sun Rise?

I’m about to this glorious morning. It’s 5 am right now, and I am still working on a final project due Tuesday evening. Once this bad boy is finished, I’ll probably enter a coma for the rest of the week waiting for my chance to graduate. YEAH, GRADUATION! I’M SO EXCITED! I’M SO EXCITED! I’M SO SCARED! ….zzzzzzz

Just kidding. I’m not one of those pill poppers who takes anything a buddy “recommends” to them. No sir, I am a user of the caffeine. It you could make caffeine patches, they would probably be the biggest seller during finals week. Wait….. copyright!

Druid Pictures

While everyone else is discussing Saban’s nifty way of legally recruiting players, I decided to enjoy the Quad on a beautiful spring day. Most of us get to see it during the football season, but rarely are a majority of Alabama fans exposed to it empty and green in the middle of spring…. you know, when the grass isn’t dead because of 90,000 people on top of it.

Your Picture of the Day

Even when you try your best, you can’t make this stuff up sometimes. (SOURCE)

The 15th

Did you walk into work, only to be hit with the sudden urge to jump out a window? Well, don’t worry, you’re not alone in this feeling as today is Tax Day.

Yes, it’s that one time of year where you start to realize that no, you can’t afford to upgrade to a biggie size, because you’re search the back seat for loose change in order to meet that payment voucher deadline listed with your tax return. You may be trying to calculate how much you can save on your power bill by living in darkness for the next 4 months, hoping to offset any financial burden you owe to the government.

Well don’t panic, you’re not the only one to have stressed out over taxes. One needs to only look at history to see a familiar trend:

The difference between death and taxes is death doesn’t get worse every time Congress meets.” (Will Rogers)

“The wages of sin are death, but after they take the taxes out, it’s more like a tired feeling.” (Paula Poundstone)

“Of life’s two certainties, at least you can get an extension for taxes.” (Unknown)

Yes, we’ve all felt the burden at one point or another. It’s a part of life we cannot avoid, but we can at least plan ahead for next year. So go ahead and order that biggie size, you’ll just have to offset it with a large donation of clothing to the Salvation Army or a even larger donation of cash to your local church.

Want more? Well, take a look at the thoughts of policy makers from the past:

“What at first was plunder assumed the softer name of revenue.” (Thomas Paine)

“I cannot lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.” (James Madison)

“It would be a hard government that should tax its people one-tenth part of their income.” (Ben Franklin) *Ben might have a cow nowadays*

“We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.” (Winston Churchill)

“Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” (Ronald Reagan)

“Taxes, after all, are dues that we pay for the privileges of membership in an organized society.” (Franklin Delano Roosevelt)
